چکیده

Tree pattern matching is a fundamental problem that has a wide range of applications in Web data management, XML processing, and selective data dissemination. In this paper we develop efficient algorithms for the tree homeomorphism problem, i.e., the problem of matching a tree pattern with exclusively transitive (descendant) edges. We first prove that deciding whether there is a tree homeomorphism is LOGSPACE-complete, improving on the current LOGCFL upper bound. Furthermore, we develop a practical algorithm for the tree homeomorphism decision problem that is both spaceand time efficient. The algorithm is in LOGDCFL and space consumption is strongly bounded, while the running time is linear in the size of the data tree. This algorithm immediately generalizes to the problem of matching the tree pattern against all subtrees of the data tree, preserving the mentioned efficiency properties.

Fast Ordered Tree Matching for XML Query Evaluation

− An XML tree pattern query, represented as a labeled tree, is essentially a complex selection predicate on both structure and content of an XML. Tree pattern matching has been identified as a core operation in querying XML data. We distinguish between two kinds of tree pattern matchings: ordered and unordered tree matching. By the unordered tree matching, only ancestor/descendant and parent/ch...

Faster Bit-Parallel Algorithms for Unordered Pseudo-tree Matching and Tree Homeomorphism

In this paper, we consider the unordered pseudo-tree matching problem, which is a problem of, given two unordered labeled trees P and T , finding all occurrences of P in T via such many-to-one matchings that preserve node labels and parent-child relationship. This problem is closely related to the tree pattern matching problem for XPath queries with child axis only. If m > w, we present an effi...

Structural Joins: A Primitive for Efficient XML Query Pattern Matching

XML queries typically specify patterns of selection predicates on multiple elements that have some specified tree structured relationships. The primitive tree structured relationships are parent-child and ancestor-descendant, and finding all occurrences of these relationships in an XML database is a core operation for XML query processing. In this paper, we develop two families of structural jo...

QuickXScan: Efficient Streaming XPath Evaluation

Many XML applications over the Internet favor high-performance single-pass streaming XPath evaluation. Finite automata-based algorithms suffer from potentially combinatorial explosion of dynamic states for matching descendant axes. We present QuickXScan for streaming evaluation of XPath queries containing child and descendant axes with complex predicates. Using a tree representation for an XPat...

ارائه روشی پویا جهت پاسخ به پرس‌وجوهای پیوسته تجمّعی اقتضایی

Data Streams are infinite, fast, time-stamp data elements which are received explosively. Generally, these elements need to be processed in an online, real-time way. So, algorithms to process data streams and answer queries on these streams are mostly one-pass. The execution of such algorithms has some challenges such as memory limitation, scheduling, and accuracy of answers. They will be more ...
